The appointment of Johannes Han as Special envoy to the President of the Commission, Ursula von der Layen, for issues Cyprusthe European Commission announced.
According to the Commission’s announcement, Mr Han will give a direct reference to its president Commission, Ursula von der Layen And “it will contribute to the process of settlement within the United Nations Framework in close cooperation with the personal envoy of the UN Secretary -General for Cyprus, Maria Angela Olgin Kuyjar.”
The expert envoy “will work with all relevant bodies and interlocutors to prepare the ground for the reopening of negotiations for a comprehensive and sustainable solution, including through confidence building,” he said.
This decision notes the committee’s commitment “to the reunification of Cyprus, with the aim of ensuring a functional and sustainable overall settlement in accordance with the relevant UN Security Council resolutions and in accordance with the authorities, the values and legislation of the EU”.
Mr. Gap served Commissioner for Regional Policy (2010 – 2014) to the Barroso Committee, Commissioner for European Neighborhood Policy and Transitional Negotiations (2014 – 2019) to the Juncker Commission and Budget and Administration Commissioner (2019 – 2024) in the first term von der Laeen. He had previously served as Minister of Science and Research in Austria from 2007 to 2010 and a member of the Vienna Regional Government for four years.
