Important legislative initiatives and reforms were put on the table in today’s Council of Ministersheld under the chairmanship of the Prime Minister, Kyriakos Mitsotakis. Decisions concern a wide range of government policy, with an emphasis on economy, citizen protection, immigration and agricultural sector.
Restructuring market supervision and consumer protection:
The Minister of Development, Takis Theodorikakos, presented a two -level plan. At the institutional level, it was announced the intention of establishing a new independent authority to the standards of AADE, which will unify the responsibilities of the consumer’s lawyer, the consumer protection mechanisms and the DIMEA. The new beginning, which is expected to operate fully in the first half of 2026, will have increased resources and technological infrastructure, with reconciliation, audit and ratification.
At a practical level, interventions were approved such as the possibility of creating popular markets exclusively for producers from local government, the development of digital application for real -time prices, and compulsory information on the shrinkage of product packaging to ensure the appropriate price adjustment.
Acceleration of third -country national returns:
The Minister of Immigration and Asylum, Makis Voridis, suggested a bill to reform the context of third -country nationals. The aim is to establish a more effective and rapid process, with clear and simplified rules, tackling today’s malfunctions, complexity and lack of clarity that prevent the effective application of returns.
Transformation of OPEKEPE:
The Ministers of National Economy and Finance, Kyriakos Pierrakakis, and Rural Development, Konstantinos Tsiaras, presented the initiatives for the transformation of the Community Aid Payment and Audit Organization (OPEKE) through its absorption by the Independent Authority. This move aims to better serve farmers, enhancing transparency and accountability in payments, developing digital services and intensifying controls.

- Eranian bills: Arrangements were presented by the Ministry of National Economy and Finance to accelerate development programs and absorbing resources, and by the Ministry of Education, Religions and Sports to strengthen female football, good governance of sports clubs and harmony with e-sports clubs.
- Public Debt Management: The ODRIX report for 2024 was approved, with the finance minister emphasizing the significant debt decline.
- Check in direct foreign investment: Foreign Minister George Gerapetritis suggested the establishment of an inter -ministerial committee for the audit of direct foreign investment for security or public order.
- Housing Policy: The Minister of Social Cohesion and Family, Domna Michaelidou, presented a recommendation for the establishment of a Government Policy Committee, with the aim of providing an affordable and quality home, especially for new and vulnerable groups.
