Kostas Tsoukalas, a spokesman for the PASOK Change, commented in a strong style of Prime Minister’s statements to overcome the target of primary surplus. As he said, this surplus is not the result of healthy growth, but comes from a “tax” affecting the middle class and the popular strata through direct and indirect taxation.
Mr Tsoukalas emphasized that over the last four years tax burdens have increased five times more than nominal increases in salaries and pensions. He described the prime minister’s surpluses as “market missing money”, noting that this situation has even affected Greek tourism this year. For this reason, he stressed that Mr Mitsotakis’ festivities are “out of place and time”.
Finally, the PASOK spokesman accused the government of underestimating citizens’ intelligence, as he said, the prime minister’s statement that “we have an economy that produces benefits, returned to society” is an “exchange of economic bleeding of citizens with crumbs”.
