Following the Organization’s subsidies to non -beneficiaries
The termination of the term of office of the provisional chairman of the Board of Directors of the Organization for Payments and Control of Community Orientation and Guarantee Aid (OPEKEPE), Nikolaou Salata, was decided by the Minister of Rural Development and Food, Costas Tsiaras, for reasons of urgent public interest.
According to a statement from the Ministry, the decision was taken for reasons of urgent public interest and dictated by the need to safeguard the Agency’s uninterrupted and effective cooperation with the European Public Prosecutor’s Office in the context of the exercise of its audit powers.
Mr Salata’s removal was deemed necessary in order to avoid any disputes that could influence the institutional function and credibility of OPEKEPE, in particular with regard to his cooperation with European control mechanisms.
