Complaint by Nikos Papandreou: Far-right organization held a parade in Thessaloniki

The PASOK MEP, Nikos Papandreou, complained that to military paradeon the 28th of October in Thessaloniki, participated organization with ultra-far-right characteristics.

THE Nikos Papandreou talks about “Greek Orthodox Youth” and notes that it is an organization that turns against him polity and democracy and has expressed himself with vulgar characterizations against parties and politicians.

At the same time asks questions to the Minister of Defense in order to “investigate the matter and identify who is responsible for this participation, if it was not him”.

Addresses and to the Prime Minister, noting “I ask the Prime Minister of the country to take the necessary decisions to protect the state institutions of the country and to take a legislative initiative, so that such phenomena do not happen again, with the same importance that he did for the issue of the “Unknown Soldier”.

The announcement:

“The Greek Orthodox Youth is an organization with views that are directed against the State, the Hellenic Republic and ultimately the Greek society. In its public interventions on social media and not only – the organization manages with vulgarity against parties of the democratic arc, characterizing them as “political scum”, calls for support for editorial efforts of the leaders of the April 21st coup, lays wreaths at monuments of national division, characterizes Greek MPs and MEPs as “thick-skinned” and its members are photographed with masked persons such as the “assault squads” of the “Golden Dawn” criminal organization.

It is with a sense of amazement that we all witnessed the participation of such an organization in the parade to celebrate the 28th of October.

National Independence is a privilege of all Greek women and men, it is synonymous with our Democracy and does not lend itself to the expression of extreme and anti-democratic views, which insult the struggles of the Greek people and the National Emblem.

The concept of the parade of “political departments” is an institution for honoring volunteerism and offering to fellow human beings and not for preaching hatred and intolerance from an organization with clear pro-far-right characteristics.

It is noteworthy that to a large extent the military parade is attended by minors and children. I find it inconceivable that the Coordinated State and the Greek one

Governments are allegedly legitimizing the expression of extreme and conservative views, some of which are full of misogyny and in front of the eyes of young children.

For all these reasons and based on common sense and on the basis of real Patriotism, where he wants all Greeks united and on behalf of the Greek people, who did me the honor to represent him:

I strongly protest that the “Greek Orthodox Youth” organization was allowed to participate in the October 28 parade.

I am asking the Minister of National Defense to investigate the matter and identify who is responsible for this participation, if it was not him.

I am asking the Prime Minister of the country to take the necessary decisions to protect the country’s state institutions and to take a legislative initiative, so that such phenomena do not happen again, with the same diligence that he did for the issue of the “Unknown Soldier”.

Otherwise, they will bear objective and historical responsibilities”.
