The commitment of the leaders of the Greek Cypriot and the Turkish Cypriot community for progress before the second informal five -member meeting of July, was referred by the United Nations Secretary -General’s personal envoy for the Cyprus, Maria Achela Olginin her statements after her meeting with her Cypriot President, Nikos Christodoulides.
Ms Olgin said they discussed “the meeting in July and all the results we will have from her”. ‘Is the leaders’ commitment, not of UNto do this, this commitment, so we are working hard, “said Ms Olgin.
Noted that immediately afterwards he would have a meeting with both of them negotiators But also that he had “very good meetings this week”, especially with the Technical Committees, with the Cultural Heritage Committee, the Committee on Culture, the Environment Committee and the newly established Youth Committee. Referring to the Youth Committee, the personal envoy of the UN Secretary -General said he had “a very excellent meeting” with them. “You see in young people, dreams and hope and the future, and we want to start thinking about the future,” said Ms Olgin. He also said he had meetings with the commercial curator on both sides, “which is important,” he added.
Ms Olgin said she will have a meeting with Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan on Monday and will then go to Athens where she will have a meeting with Greek Foreign Minister George Gerapetritis. He intended for visits to London and Brussels.
“And I hope in July we will make some progress and continue to work on it to build confidence, which is so important before anything else,” he said.
Asked by a journalist whether he is optimistic, Mrs. Olgin said, “I am always optimistic, and I think it’s a good time to succeed and try to facilitate people’s lives here.”
The meeting, the second with President Christodoulides from Mrs Olgin’s arrival in Cyprus last week, lasted about an hour. Maria Achela Olgin also had two meetings with Turkish Cypriot leader Ersin Tatar.
Immediately after meeting with President Christodoulides, Ms Olgin had a joint meeting with the negotiators of both sides, Menelao Menelau and Guenia Onar.
