The Minister of Citizen Protection, Michalis Chrysochoidis, announced the government’s intention to install specialized police officers within the Roma camps, with the aim of daily presence and strict application of the law.
As he said in an interview with SKAI, “these police officers will be fighting, they will be in the camps and will have their headquarters there. Applying the measure will start in about 1.5 months and will be subject to Greek FBI».
The minister stressed that police would patrol the neighborhoods and settlements daily, sending the message that “there is nowhere to avoid the law”. At the same time, he described the “tolerance that has existed for years” and stressed that it must be terminated.
Crime in Attica
Mr Chrysochoidis noted that the main problem with crime focuses on Attica and that the situation is falling down. As he explained, there are two main fields:
-
The organized and heavy criminal background, which has been effectively treated by the Greek FBI, with 1,400 arrests and 500 preactions within six months.
-
“Little Crime”, which affects the neighborhoods and has a serious problem mainly with Roma, theft, robberies and abusive acts, despite the fact that it also decreases.
Action of Turkish Mafia and unscrupulous crimes
Regarding the action of members of the Turkish mafia in the country, the minister stressed that “we had a problem with Turks who pretended to be anti -dictatorial. Some are being held, while the rest are in pre -reference centers for repatriation. ” He added that “there are no more unsolved crimes of these groups”.
Occupation of Universities and OPEKEPE
Mr. Chrysochoidis also pointed out that “there is no longer a single square occupation in university sites, for the first time in 50 years. All sites have been delivered to teachers and students. “
Finally, in the OPECEPE case, he reminded that a check was carried out on all the beneficiaries’ tax IDs, resulting in more than 1,000 cases of illegal collection of more than EUR 10,000. The competent prosecutor has already launched property commitments for amounts received over the last four years, and has begun investigating the action of criminal organizations within OPEKEPE.
