Chrysochoid post for ELAS women – how many are high -ranking in key positions

Posting for the new policy aimed at strengthening the woman’s position in Greek police and the imprinting of the results of its implementation with numbers, the Minister of Citizen Protection Michalis Chrysochoidis.

In detail his post:

‘Good morning and good week,
Today I will present to you a different “report”, the persistent effort to strengthen the position of the woman in the Greek Police. Since July 2019, the government has begun a systematic effort to reinforce gender equality in all areas of everyday life, but also in public administration and in the public sector in general.
The Greek Police is a body of security, that is, it belongs to those that were traditionally considered “hard” and “male -dominated” professions and to some extent it was. For many years the woman had a supportive role, mainly in office services, and quantitatively represented a small number of body. A tendency that began to change, but slowly, after the introduction of the Police Schools through the Pan -Hellenic Examination System.
In recent years, following the general planning to promote gender equality, but also in harmony with the decisions of the Council of State, such as the one that has re -identified the height to join a woman in the Greek police, a new policy was adopted to strengthen the position of a woman in the Greek police. This effort has two main axes. On the one hand, the increase in the number of women who are included in the police and on the other the placement of women in positions of responsibility and in business services, even those who are considered the most demanding.
So let’s look at the imprinting of the woman’s position in the police with numbers:
– Currently 9,422 women police officers serve in the Greek Police, 16% of all body staff. Of these 2,372 are officers (ie 25% of women police officers, while the corresponding rate for men is 16%).
– The Director of the Chief of Staff of the Hellenic Police Chief is- for the first time- a woman, the representative of the Greek Police is a woman, 80 female officers are police officers, 73 are serving in the Anti-Terrorist Service (DAEV), 4 in the Department
– In 2023 the percentage of female tests in the Schools of the Police Academy is 6.7%. In 2024 this figure increased sharply, reaching 48%!
– In 2024, two women assume for the first time duties of Police Director.
– In total of 109 brigades 19 are women. 18 of them were promoted to the rank of crises of 2025 and made up 50% of all the brigades who were promoted.

– In 2025, for the first time, a woman assumes the duties of Director of the Attica Criminal Directorate (formerly of Attica Security Directorate, one of the most crucial police services of the Police).
– Four female brigades were placed in 2025 as directors in post -police headquarters. A Female Brigadier General took over as a commander at the Police Academy School.
Despite progress, however, the need for continuous revision of political, institutional practices and attitudes remains imperative to ensure complete and meaningful equality in practice. Women’s involvement is not just a matter of equality. It is a decisive factor for a more humane, fair and socially sensitive policing. That is why we will continue to support female police officers in every way, because women are the protagonists in the modernization and evolution of the Greek Police.
In closing, I recall that for the Ministry of Citizen Protection and the Greek Police to address gender -based violence, strengthening the victims of various forms of interpersonal violence, and especially domestic, 70% of which are women, is a top priority. It is an integral element of the new philosophy of social policing. “

Good morning and good week, today I will present you a different “report”, the persistent effort to enhance …
