Departments of Food Science and Technology
The Departments of Food Science and Technology combine chemistry with technology and nutrition, offering a wide range of knowledge in the production, processing, safety and quality of food.
The curriculum covers themes such as food chemistry and microbiology, quality control methodologies, standardization of products and the development of innovative foods. At the same time, emphasis on modern approaches such as viability, supply chain safety and the application of digital technologies in the food industry.
Graduates of the Departments can work in food and beverage industries, quality control laboratories, public food control bodies and other public or private organizations, focusing on food. It is a dynamic and multidimensional sector of the labor market. The Food Science and Technology Departments offer both 4 years and 5 years of curricula. Material Science Departments
The material science departments focus on the study, research, technology and the development of advanced materials. Referring to the materials we will find study directions in biomaterials, polymers and colloids, magnetic materials, optoelectronic and photonal materials, molecular materials, ceramics and much more. The Departments offer modern curricula in science and material technology, combining theoretical training with practical training, and prepare students for a variety of professional occupations in industrial, research and educational areas.
The Department of Materials Engineering of the University of Ioannina is a separate case, because despite its relevance to the Patras and Heraklion Departments it offers its graduates registration with the Technical Chamber of Greece and the professional rights of chemical engineers, corresponding to the materials, as well as the general rights of engineers. That is why this section belongs only to the 2nd scientific field, while the other two belong to the 2nd and 3rd.

Oenology departments
The sections Wine, Vine and Drink Sciences (Aigaleo) and Rural Biotechnology and Oenology(Drama) offer specialized curricula in the field of oenology, drinks and agricultural biotechnology. Graduates of both departments acquire the professional right of an oenologist, which offers them access to professional areas such as production and quality control of wine and beverages, packaging, maintenance and many others. Attendance in the Aigaleo section lasts 4 years and focuses on viticulture, oenology, brewing and beverage technology, offering students integrated education and training in the production and management of products such as wine and drinks. On the other hand, the Department of Drama consists of a 5 -year curriculum, focusing on the study of agricultural biotechnology and biotechnological applications in Oenology, with the aim of developing modern methods of producing wine and other agricultural products. Both departments provide specialized knowledge that prepares students for career in food and beverage industries, with a focus on quality, research and innovation.
