Change of persons, not strategy – because Mitsotakis quickly closed the government pending

Thanos Plevris awaited his return to the government already from the reshuffle that took place a few months ago. After the 2023 elections, he had returned to the New Democracy parliamentary seats, lifting a heavy burden on parliamentary controversy. But a few months ago the long -awaited phone call was not made and he continued with the duties of a parliamentary spokesman for ND, with several straight confrontations especially with Zoe Konstantopoulou.

This morning Kyriakos Mitsotakis went to his office at the Maximos Palace, deciding to close any pending government after the departure of Maki Voridis and three deputy ministers due to OPEKEPE’s case. The case of Plevris was the basic choice at the government staff since Friday night and was finalized today, with the same phone call at noon. His choice in the post of the Ministry of Immigration is, according to government officials, just a change of face and not a change of direction in this interrupted portfolio. And Maki Voridis’ position on Thebes Street a few months ago was a signal to a tougher immigration policy, as revealed by the initiatives he took in the few months left at the helm of the ministry. For the government staff, the goal is to continue this course.

The persons of the Deputy Ministers also do not signal major changes, but the choices are of intra -party interest and are at the same time persistent in the strategy of utilizing MPs of the younger generation. Haris Theocharis returns to the government after leaving the Treasury and claimed the position of Secretary General of the World Tourism Organization. Making a good campaign came second, but did not take the place and returned to national politics. It should be noted, he is another minister elected in the southern part of Athens.

Yiannis Andrianos, formerly director of the Press Office at the Maximos Mansion on Kostas Karamanlis, is taking over as deputy minister for the second time, as he has been a Samaritan Deputy Minister of Education and Sports. A MP of Karamanlian origin, but low -key and derived from Argolida, a clockwise and agricultural law.

As for Christos Dermentzopoulos, who undertakes the Land Registrar to the Deputy Minister of Digital Governance, his placement was almost prescribed. He is Sarantaris, coming from the younger generation of blue MPs and launched in the prefecture of Evros in the 2023 elections. In the first government of the second term Mitsotakis, his name was almost locked for the position of Deputy Minister of Defense, but eventually became there. Two years later he also found the way for the government.

With these facts, the Council of Ministers will meet on Monday, as the swearing -in of the new ministers will take place on the morning of the same day at the Presidential Palace. At the same time, there will be small carpets in the New Democracy Parliamentary Group, as Thanos Plevris will have to be replaced as the first parliamentary spokesman.
