OR Real Madrid she is too tough to “die”. With its “stars” scoring, the “queen” went 3-2 away from the home of Atalanta, for the 6th matchday in League Phase of Champions League and she stayed alive in the battle it gives for its presence in the knockout phase of the competition. Comfortable “doubles” for Bayern Munich (5-1 against Shakhtar) and Paris Saint-Germain (3-0 against Salzburg). Big away win for Aston Villa (3-2 in Leipzig). Leverkusen “broke” Inter’s unbeaten streak in the 90′ (1-0).
Night with 25 goals and great emotions in the Champions League! Despite losing Kylian Mbappe to injury and conceding an equalizer at the end of the first half, Real Madrid looked like champions in Bergamo, defeating stunning Atalanta 3-2 and taking a significant breather in the League Phase of the competition.
Against the leader of Serie A, with 9 consecutive victories in the league and 8 in all competitions, the “merenches” achieved a great “double” and, now, hold fate in their hands (18th place). Despite their defeat, the “Bergamaski” remain in… the 8th place (7th place with 11 points).
Before going off injured in the first half, Mbappe was on course to score his 50th Champions League goal and become the 4th fastest player to 50 goals in Europe’s top club competition. Jude Bellingham also scored, finding the net in the 5th consecutive match for the Madrid team.
At the same time, Bayern Munich and Paris Saint-Germain had easy away missions. The Bavarians “destroyed” Shakhtar 5-1 in Geselkirchen (he rose to 8th place in the standings table), while the French champions left with a comfortable 3-0 away from the home of Salzburg and narrowly entered the knockout zone (24th) .
A huge victory for Christos Joli’s Club Brugge, 2-1 over Sporting Lisbon, which still refuses to “raise its head” after Amorim’s departure. A great performance from the Greek international ace in the 81 minutes he played, having a part in the Belgians’ equalizing goal (Quaresma’s own goal came from his own shot), while he then missed two important chances to score.

Bayer Leverkusen “found” a goal in the 90′ and defeated Inter 1-0, forcing them to their first defeat in the Champions League, while Aston Villa with the great “double” against Leipzig of 6 consecutive defeats is for good in the direct qualification game.
Mathematically, the amazing Brest secured their qualification to the intermediate phase of the Champions League, with their victory over Eindhoven (1-0).
Atalanta – Real Madrid 2-3
The match was at a torrid pace from the start, with Real Madrid seeing Mbappe in the 3rd minute unable to beat Carnesecchi in a 4-on-4. Seven minutes later, however, the French striker beat the “Bergamaski” goalkeeper for 0-1.
Both teams continued to play aggressively and miss chances, with Mbappe being the main recipient of the Merengues’ efforts. However, Atalanta began to gain yards on the pitch, but… found Courtois and the “Queen’s” defense.
Real Madrid played exemplary in defense, but in the 36th minute they saw Mbappe leave with a problem. The guests, however, “came very close to a new goal in the 40th minute.” From a Bellingham turnover, Rudiger didn’t get an ideal header from inside the box and the ball went wide.
At the end of the first half, Atalanta came forward and the referee gave a penalty in the 45+1′ when Tsouameni marked Kolasinac. Ketelare took over the execution and made it 1-1.
The image of the match was more balanced in the replay. An “explosive” period of Real Madrid was enough to bring the 1-3! In the 56th minute, Vinicius was favored by the counterattacks, got into a shooting position and beat Karneseki for 1-2. Three minutes later, Bellingham entered the Atalanta area and beat Karneseki with a left-footed shot.
But the match had more excitement to give, since in the 65th minute, Lukman reduced for Atalanta, making it 2-3. Despite this particular development, Real Madrid held on, while Courtois had important interventions in some of the home team’s shots.
Salzburg – Paris Saint-Germain 0-3
Paris Saint-Germain had the upper hand in the match at the home of Salzburg, in the 23rd minute they saw Ramos miss in front of an empty net and finally reached 0-1 in the 30th minute. Barcola curled a cross at the far post, Hakimi turned the ball over with a header and Ramos poked it into the net from close range to give the French champions the win they needed.
The match picked up pace in the replay, with Paris Saint-Germain controlling it and eventually reaching – without stress – 0-2, with Mendes’ goal in the 72nd minute. The final 0-3 was made in the 85′ by Due.
Club Brugge – Sporting Lisbon 2-1
Sporting Lisbon made an ideal start at the home of Camp Brugge, opening the scoring in the 3′. Araujo hit the post and in the rebound Katamo pushed the ball into the net for 0-1 with Mignolet neutralized.
But in the 24th minute came the equalizer for Club Brugge. Skov Olsen made the turn from the right, Christos Tzolis crossed with the right and after the ball hit Quaresma’s leg, it ended up in the net for 1-1. The goal was charged as an own goal.
Four minutes later, Sporting won a penalty but after VAR intervention a foul was awarded on the edge of the box as the offense was charged offside. The first part of the match had several minutes of delays, with Christos Tzoli unable to beat the opposing goalkeeper, in an unrepeatable four-on-four at 45+11′.
The team of the Greek striker reached the precious victory (2-1), achieving the final 2-1 in the 84′ with Nielsen.
Shakhtar – Bayern Munich 1-5
Shakhtar Donetsk managed to shock Bayern Munich. Just in the 5th minute, he made it 1-0 with Kevin’s nice shot. The Bavarians’ 1-1 came quickly. Miller found Olisse vertically in the 11′, Leimer followed, took advantage of the counterattacks and sent the ball into the net with a set piece.
Bayern Munich took control of the match and pushed for an overturn, which they did in stoppage time in the first half. The Bavarians stole the ball, Musiala fed Miller, who with a nice shot made it 1-2.
Bayern continued in the same…tempo in the replay and in the 67th minute saw Musiala’s goal canceled out by OUR. In the end, it was 1-3 on three minutes, with Olisse on target with a penalty kick.
In the last minutes of the match, Bayern Munich reached two more goals, with Musiala and Olisse making the final 1-5.
Leipzig – Aston Villa 2-3
Aston Villa entered the match well at the home of Leipzig and reached 0-1 in the 3′. After some good movement from the Villans, McGinn headed home after being assisted by Watkins. But before the end of the first half, Leipzig equalized. In the 27th minute and after being stuffed, Openda took advantage of a misunderstanding between Carlos and Martines, and scored for 1-1.
It was Aston Villa who scored first in the replay as well, with Duran unleashing a “fireball” from outside the area in the 52nd minute and finding the net. In 59′ it was canceled through OUR goal by the guests, for Baumgartner to arrive in the 61st minute and bring the match to a tie (2-2). The final 2-3 in favor of Aston Villa was formed in the 85′ by Barkley.
Brest – Eindhoven 1-0
Julien le Cardinal’s goal in the 44th minute of the first half – which also got his approval OUR– it was what shaped the match 1-0, in Brest’s home match against Eindhoven.
Brest entered the second half well and had two good moments with Balde (47′ and 50′). In the 57th minute, however, Eindhoven came close to equalizing, having a crossbar in a shot by Saibari.
Bayer Leverkusen – Inter 1-0
The match between Leverkusen and Inter Milan was in the balance for 89 minutes, for Mukiele to come on in the 90′ and “redeem” Xabi Alonso’s team, giving them a great victory in the attempt to enter the top 8 of the Champions League Phase League. At the same time, this goal “broke” the unbeaten streak of “neratzouri” in this year’s tournament.
The “absolute” Liverpool “sealed” the 8th place
Liverpool “locked” its place in the first eight of the League Phase of the Champions League with the 6/6 they did against Girona (1-0), while in “Maximir” Zagreb, Dinamo and Celtic “stuck” at 0- 0, a result that in essence did not “hit” any team, especially the hosts who were “burning” for the “three points”.
