Saint Onoufrios the Egyptian

One of the greatest ascetic figures of the Egyptian deserts, Onoufrios came from Persia. As a child he also showed a fiery desire of total dedication to God. At an early age, he joined a communal fraternity, where he was practiced in spiritual and physical temperament and obedience for several years.

His great humility made his brothers love him very much. When he matured at age, Onoufrios wanted to go deeper into the desert, get to know and imitate the lives of her ascetics there. With great regret the fraternity released this select member.

After walking quite a bit in the desert, he met the hut of hermit Ermia, who waited for him with divine revelation. Hermia led him to a hut, under a huge palm tree, next to the waters of a purple source. There, Onoufrios served in greater spiritual exercise, and his reputation spread to all hermites, who often went to consult him and get his wish.

Eventually, when Abbas Pafnoutios once visited him, he left his last breath, and Pafnoutius buried him under the huge palm tree. He thus reminded of all the words of the Apostle Paul: “He was about him for Eusebius” (1 to Timothy, D 7). That is, it has been screaming and using yourself in the constant practice of Holy Life.

Also today is the World Anti -Child Labor Day.
