Saints Bartholomew and Barnabas

Bartholomew was one of the twelve apostles of the Lord and preached the Gospel to the Indians to whom he handed over the Matthew Gospel. But in Urvanoupolis the pagans crucified him, so he glorified his life with the martyrdom.

Barnabas (and Jesus named) was a Jewish Levite, from Cyprus and during the Apostles inhabitants in Jerusalem. A key associate of the Apostle Paul, Varnavas, preached the Gospel of Christ in Jerusalem, Rome, Alexandria and in his hometown of Cyprus. There he was stoned by the Jews and the pagans, and then burned him. His holy relics were collected by the Apostle and Evangelist Mark and placed them in a cave.

An old tradition states that Barnabas was buried with the Matthew Gospel, which he had copied with his hands and which he tried to make known to “build it”.

Barnabas was a great and glorious ecclesiastical figure, who was distinguished for his fiery faith and his ability to preach the divine discourse.

Both Apostles contributed in the best way to fulfilling the Lord’s prophecy, that “always the nations are not preacher in the Gospel” (Mark, M.10). That is, in all nations, according to the Divine Plan, the Gospel must be declared before the Divine Plan, in order to be this preaching for those who will not believe.
