Eric Menendez was transported to the hospital with “serious medical condition” Mennendez brothers who were convicted of killing their parents in their villa in Beverly Hills in 1989. The revelation was made by his lawyer in US media.
The news brings the BBCa few weeks before the brothers Menendez, Eric and Layle, appear in listening to their release, After decades of staying in prison for the murder of their parents. Release listening is scheduled for the August 21st.
Eric Menendez’s lawyer did not give more details about his situation, though many American media report that this is a kidney problem – something that has not been officially confirmed.
Menendez was transferred to San Diego on Friday, where he has been held in an outdoor medical unit for years. The California Prison Institutions Department told Local Media CBS 8 that Menendez is in a “moderate state” without providing further information.
The two brothers are serving a prison sentence for the murder of their parents, Kiti and Jose Menendez in 1989. They claim that they have acted in self -defense, while prosecutors believe that they killed their parents for financial incentives.
In May, their sentence was amended by life imprisonment without release, in 50 years with the possibility of release. This makes them eligible for a release, given their young age at the time of the crime.
Their lawyer, Mark Geragos, speaking to TMZ, requested Eric Menendez’s release for health reasonssaying: “I believe that he should be given temporary release for medical reasons before hearing, so that he can prepare properly and have a fair opportunity.”
