British tourists paid a fine for a dive on the Venice channel – 48 hours to leave the city

To leave one by one of the Venice Authorities called a couple of British after being caught swimming on a channel on the last day of their vacation. The couple, living in the United Kingdom, were found by gondoliers and reported to the police. They were also fined for their frivolous act.

Authorities in Venice imposed a fine £ 390 to each and they ordered them to leave the city in 48 hours. Swimming in the 150 channels of Venice is strictly prohibited due to the risks of gondolas and high -speed boats.

The city’s security adviser, Elizabeta Peske, thanked the Gondoliers for their timely intervention, while the case sparked reactions from the initiative ‘Venice is not Disneyland’, demanding stricter fines and permanent ban on offenders.

Tourists’ behavior has repeatedly created problems in the historic city. In 2023, the mayor of Venice described a “stupid” man jumping from a three -storey building on the canal, while in the past there were dips from the Rialto Bridge with injuries and hospitalizations.

Venice authorities are stepping up their efforts to limit the irresponsible behavior of tourists.
