OR actor Prunella Scales by Britainbest known for her role as Sybil Fawlty on the sitcom “Fawlty Towers,” has died at the age of 93, her sons said in a statement today (10/28/2025).
The actress had a 7-decade career in Britain, during which she played many roles from the 1950s, until she took on the role of Sybil, the wife of John Cleese, and appeared in two seasons of the sitcom Fawlty Towers, in 1975 and 1979.
She was married to actor Timothy West for 61 years who died last November. Scales even suffered from dementia.
“Our beloved mother Prunella Scales passed away yesterday peacefully at her home in London. On the eve of her death she was watching Fawlty Towers,” the statement from her two sons reads.
The television sitcom is set in a hotel in the seaside resort of Torquay and became one of the most popular sitcoms in Britain, still running and becoming a reference point in the country’s popular culture.
