Luis Ignacio Lulaits president Brazil today (12.12.2024) “successfully” underwent a second surgery, aimed at reducing the risk of further bleeding in the brain.
“He is in perfect neurological condition, he is doing very well,” neurosurgeon Marcos Stavale said of Luis Inacio Lula da Silva, at the press conference he gave. The Brazilian president is expected to be released from intensive care tomorrow Friday.
Lula, 79, will be released from hospital next week.
It is recalled that last Tuesday he underwent brain surgery to treat a hematoma, a consequence of a fall he had at home in October.
His personal doctor, Roberto Kalil, told reporters that Lula “is awake and talking.” After returning to Brasilia, the president “will be able to start work again” but for his full recovery he will need to “rest for a few weeks”, the doctor explained.
On October 19, Lula hit the back of the head when he fell in the bathroom of his official residence. Due to this accident he canceled his trip to Russia for the BRICS summit.
His schedule, however, remained busy in the following days. On November 18 and 19, Rio de Janeiro hosted the G20 summit, the forum of the world’s largest economies.
