The former president of the Brazilian Zaich Bolsonaro With the country’s prosecutors calling on the Supreme Court for his conviction for the charges of an attempted coup and the “armed criminal organization”, in the context of his trial that caused a diplomatic crisis with the US.
Following a long hearing process, Brazilian prosecutors presented their position, according to which the far -right former President Zaih Bolsonaro and seven former associates attempted to ensure that they remained in power “through the efforts of the Democrat”.
Bolsonaro is accused of attempted coup and is in danger of being sentenced to 40 years in prison. It is alleged to have been the “leader of a criminal organization” who conspired to remain in power, whatever the result of the 2022 presidential election, won by the left -wing candidate and current President Luis Iniio Lula da Silva.
The Attorney General noted that the defendants’ involvement has been proven in what happened at the time and stressed that “it is necessary to condemn (…) for an armed criminal organization (…) attempt to abolish the Democratic State (…) coup” and other offenses.
The fate of the former president and his co -defendants is now in the hands of Judge Alexander de Moraes, whom the US threatens with sanctions because of the decisions he has taken at the expense of US social networking sites.
Bolsonaro’s trial caused the wrath of US President Donald Trump, his close ally, who accused Brazil of “witch hunting” and announced that it would impose a 50% duties on August 1.
Bolsonaro himself declares innocent and “persecuted”, but he acknowledged before the court that he examined the possibility of appealing to a “constitutional order” to prevent Lula’s swearing -in. He also argues that he is a victim of a “political prosecution” with the aim of preventing him from putting in favor of the 2026 presidential election, although he has been deprived of this right by 2030 due to another case, for spreading false information about the electoral system.
