Safer the movements in the department Swimming of the North Road Crete (BOAK) as road safety interventions by the Ministry of Infrastructure and Transport, based on the model followed on the old Patras-Pyrgos highway and international experience are rapidly moving on.
The purpose of the interventions is to limit traffic accidents to increased danger sections of existing road total length 300 kilometerswith an emphasis on 145 kilometers from Kissamos, Chania to Heraklion (Linopemama), and maintain the level of functionality of the road, until the construction projects of the new, state -of -the -art BOAK motorway are completed, which has now been put on track.
“Kolonakia” for the separation of traffic directions, configuration of three lanes with a secure passage strip, lighting, new security and light signaling where required, remodeling of existing and new nodes and new nodes Strip, temporary measures for protection from falls as well as cleaning of the side vegetation to ensure visibility are the basic interventions designed to be applied by sections.
Corresponding interventions were implemented in December 2023 on the Old Patra -Pyrgos Highway and in particular in the 68km section from Lower Achaia to the capital of Ilia and resulted in a drastic reduction in deaths of 90% annually as well as no 20s.
The implementation of the measures was accompanied by a strict policing, as provided for in BOAK where the projects were started by the Kolymbari – Chania and Heraklion – Linopemomama sections, and will gradually extend to Chania – Georgioupoli, Petres – Petra – Petra – Petres – Petres
In addition to the reduction of deaths and serious injuries, the implementation of the measures at the same time seek safe passage of nodes and entrances, maintenance of road functionality and sufficient traffic flow in the manufacturing phase of the motorway.
