Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan is expected to have a private meeting with United States President Donald Trump on the sidelines of the NATO Summit.
The meeting according to the Bloombergit is scheduled to take place on Tuesday night in The Hague with sources speaking under anonymity, as consultations are held in a closed circle. On the US side there was no immediate comment.
The appointment is characterized by diplomatic circles as an attempt to “restore” bilateral relations, which have been tested in recent years by a series of disputes, including issues around Syria, the market of the Russian S-400 from Turkey, and the removal of the anchor from the F-35 program.
The context of the meeting gains particular emphasis, as it takes place in a period of broader geopolitical tensions in the Middle East and with Donald Trump seeking a complete decline in military clashes with Iran.
