The Swedish legend of tennis, Bjorn Borgthe emblematic form of the sport from the late 1970s to the early 1980s, reveals that it has cancer, according to a Swedish newspaper Expressen. The information is based on the presentation of his upcoming autobiography, which took place in Italy.
“Bjorn Borg writes that he has cancer in the autobiography of Battiti del Cuore (” heartbeats “), according to Italian media,” Expressen said.
The newspaper cites the presentation of the book in the Italian edition of Amazon, which was also consulted by the French News Agency (AFP). It describes that the veteran champion faces a “new challenge – the most important and still open – to cancer.”
According to Expressen, this is prostate cancer.
The 69 -year -old dominated worldwide tennis about five decades ago, conquering Roland Garros and Wimbledon five times.
Known by the nickname “Ice Borg” because of his cold in the court, he unexpectedly announced his retirement in January 1983, at the age of just 26. A decision generally attributed to mental exhaustion. One year and something earlier, he had been defeated by his big opponent, John Makenro, in the US Open final, the only Grand Slam he never conquered.
In 1991 he attempted a short and fruitless comeback, even using his old wooden racket.
The Swedish publishing house Noorsteds, which will be released by autobiography, has not yet answered the AFP questions. The book is expected to be released on September 18th.
