Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis visited the Megara Health Center, one of the 160 health centers that are radically renovated and upgraded with resources of the recovery fund, in the context of actions to improve public health structures of all levels and digitization of services.
Work done, in an area of about 1,200 square meters, include modernization of equipment, replacing floors and ceilings in the laboratory, the emergency department, hygiene and other rooms. Water supply and sewer infrastructure were also replaced, new electrical installations were constructed and the building was upgraded energy, through the installation of thermal facade, the water vapor installation, the use of heat pumps and the construction of a 550W photovoltaic unit to improve energy efficiency.

The prime minister, accompanied by Health Minister Adonis Georgiadis and Deputy Minister Irene Agapidakis, had the opportunity to talk to workers who highlighted the radical reform of the unit and the extension of the hours to operate 24 hours a day. In this context, the staffing of the Health Center has increased with an additional 15 staff since 2019, while the recruitment of three other general physicians and one more pediatrician has been launched, so that the unit fully meets the primary needs of the Megara area.

At the end of the visit, the prime minister said: “In 2022, the last time I visited the Megara and this place, I had made a commitment that the Megara would have a fully renovated, modern and well -staffed health center. I am glad that today is here, we can say that we said it and did it.
And, of course, we were able to do so on the one hand because we used for the benefit of a drastic upgrading of the infrastructure throughout the country in the field of health the resources of the Recovery Fund. Because what we see here in Megara is just one of the 160 health centers that are fundamentally renovated and is the best proof that European resources, ultimately, have a social footprint that Greek citizens see in their daily lives and especially in the critical field of health.
I would like to congratulate the Ministry of Health on the speed and efficiency with which it has launched all the projects funded by the recovery fund.
But the big thumbs up, in this case, belongs to you. I am mainly referring to the management but also to the staff of the Health Center, because you have been able to keep this site open and functional while the Health Center was repaired, which I know is never easy.
But I believe that you see today that this effort is justified. You have a space that for you is a workplace, worthy of your expectations, and the Megara and the wider area acquire a health center, a quality primary unit with a 24 -hour operation, which can meet all the primary needs of both residents and visitors. So congratulations again.
And, of course, let’s say a conversation about the maturity unit of the HRIP works. You know, when we managed and secured 36 billion from the recovery fund, our great stress has always been speed and transparency in absorbing these very important European funds we could and secured for the country.
Every time we see a project that is inaugurated, it is ready, this gives us additional satisfaction and even greater energy to be able to complete all the big projects funded by the recovery fund. Because in addition to the buildings, in addition to the staff, I want to make a separate mention of a great effort to be made in the digital upgrading of health.
We will have the opportunity to say more with the Minister and the Deputy Minister very soon. The country, from where it was a heaven, will be in the pioneer of Europe in terms of a patient’s digital folder in the usability of the Myhealth App, the ability of your information systems to communicate. For example, the x -ray you will do here, if you need to get a second opinion, can do so using technology.
We are talking about a real revolution that is funded by the Recovery Fund and which will really allow us, at the end of the four -year period, to actually talk about a new NHS.
But I close by saying that nothing is done without people, without the staff of the National Health System, especially Primary Care. You were at the forefront and in the battle against the pandemic. You kept the NHS and the country upright. And the minimum we can do is, on the one hand, to recognize this offer, but on the other hand to ensure that we can support you as much as we can, thereby rewarding you for the only service you offer to the country. So, the Health Center and Congratulations. “

Deputy Minister of Health Irene Agapidakis noted: “According to the prime minister’s vision, we are renovating and enhancing primary health care.
Together with the organized prevention program, we further support the health of all citizens. We are trying to get everywhere with the ERY Mobile Health Teams (KOMY), President, to get health to every home. And to be our concern anymore how to gain more years of healthy life and not just cure.
To say that we are at a health center, which started with 15 staff less in 2019, now we have 15 more and is already launched and I think it will also delight the manager, that we will hire three general doctors in addition and one more pediatrician. “
The Director of the Hellenic Karanasiou Health Center said: “We are in a 37 -year health center. It started in 1988. After so many years a total renovation and upgrade, energy and building was upgraded.
What I have to say is that we offer health services to many people and in a very large area. We offer regular and extraordinary clinics. We stood in the pandemic. We help as much as we can with further staffing in vibrant potential I think we will give the city what it deserves.
I thank the Prime Minister, thank our ministers, the MPs in the area, thank the staff because without this chain, the human, which is so strong and without breaking half a link, nothing would happen. Everyone has offered from the point where he can, whatever he can.
Thank you very much for honoring us a second time, since 2022 you had come back. You had told me then what to do for us and I had told you, if you remember, look at the ceiling. As soon as you looked at my ceiling you said, “Greece, I know what to do”. Thank you very much. “
