Northern Corfu is affected by bad weather and heavy rainfall with serious damage, while many areas are inaccessible and, according to ERT, a couple with a baby had to be rescued. A strong storm also “hit” Parga, Arta, Ioannina and Igoumenitsa, while the wider area of Kastoria and Epirus are measuring the damage from the sweeping passage of bad weather.
Due to the heavy rains and the large amount of water in Karousades, an entire slope caved in, resulting in damage to parked cars and old houses. In fact, a two-story abandoned house collapsed due to the heavy rainfall.
The roads have turned into rivers and are filled with mud.
In Corfu one of the streams in a residential area swelled.
Problems in Epirus and Kastoria
According to the same publication, by 6 am today another 50 millimeters of rain had fallen in Konitsa and 70 in Papigo, bringing the total amount of rain in the last three days to over 330 millimeters, an amount corresponding to about a third of the rain that falls all year.
The historic bridge of Vrosina withstood the enormous pressure of the torrents, while the Mastorochoria of Ioannina remain without electricity with crews working feverishly to restore electricity.
In Kastoria, the Aliakmonas River overflowed in many places and there is even a temporary ban on drinking water.
The village of Grammos in Kastoria is in a state of emergency, as the heavy rains of the last few hours caused the Aliakmons to overflow, leading to the confinement of five livestock farmers along with their herds.
Bean and corn crops were flooded in the municipality of Argos Orestikos due to an overflowing river, while serious problems have occurred in the entire regional unit of Kastoria, especially in the area of Nestorio. In addition, an emergency stoppage of drinking water was imposed in the local communities of Pentavrysos, Avgi, Ypsilou and Verga, but also in Nestorio, Kalochori and Ptelea, as well as rocks falling in places.
In Kanalia, a falling tree cut cables, while a traffic stop on the provincial road Neraidas – Sayadas caused the Kalamas River to overflow.
After 30 hours of rain, flooding also occurred in the Stomion Monastery area, while areas of Konitsa remain without electricity.
The weather forecast
The EMY issued on Thursday (20.11.25) a new emergency worsening weather bulletin for the bad weather, noting that the rains and storms occurring in Epirus, Ionia and Aitoloakarnania will continue today, Friday.
Today Friday heavy rains and storms are predicted in the Ionian Islands (Corfu, Paxos, Lefkada, Kefallonia, Ithaca), Aitoloakarnania and Epirus.
At the same time, it is noted that a gradual recession of the strong phenomena is predicted from late Friday night to Saturday.
According to the forecast in the Ionian, Epirus and western Sterea increased clouds with rain and storms. In the Ionian Islands (Corfu, Paxos, Lefkada, Kefallonia, Ithaca), Aitoloakarnania and Epirus the phenomena will be strong in places. A gradual abatement of the strong phenomena is predicted from late at night.
In Macedonia, Thrace and from the afternoon in the western Peloponnese, increased clouds with local rains and sporadic storms.
In the rest of the country, sparse clouds in places and occasionally denser with light local rains in the eastern Peloponnese, eastern Sterea and the eastern Aegean.
Meteorological conditions favor the transport of African dust mainly in the central and southern regions.
Winds will blow from south directions 4 to 6, in the Ionian and Aegean 6 to 7 and in the northern Aegean temporarily up to 8 Beaufort.
The temperature will not change appreciably. It will reach 21 to 23 degrees in most areas and locally in the eastern mainland, the Dodecanese and northern Crete 24 to 25 degrees Celsius.
