This year, 2,188 people residing abroad obtained Austrian citizenship, representing 40 per cent of all the people who obtained citizenship in the first three months of 2025.

The slight increase is mainly due to the increase in naturalisations of people persecuted by the Nazi regime and their descendants, most of whom do not live in Austria.
