It is repeated that the Turkish Memorandum completely ignores the existence of numerous Greek islands, such as Crete and the Dodecanese
In a strict diplomatic tone, Athens gives a response to Verbal Declaration of the Transitional Government of Tripoli, dated June 20, on research south of Crete.
In the hands of the UN Secretary -General, Greece’s verbal degradation was handed over yesterday in response to the corresponding Libyan Declaration of June 20th.
According to ERT, at the first point it is recalled that the announcement of the international tender for investigations in south of Crete concerns marine pieces that are located within the Greek continental shelf, on the basis of sea law and do not affect the sovereign rights of Libya.
It even clarifies that The demarcation of the pieces has been based on the middle line between the two countries, but also on the basis of the Greek-Egyptian EEZ agreement.
Especially for the midline, it is emphasized that it is defined on the basis of the continental and island coasts, with Athens essentially repeating its position on the right of the islands to an EEZ-blink.
The Greek verbal decline is also rejected by the border line that is reflected in the maps of Libya, as opposed to the predictions of sea law, and more so when its eastern part is identified with Illegal demarcation of the Turkolibyan memorandum.
Repeated that The Memorandum completely ignores the existence of numerous Greek islands, such as Crete and the Dodecanese, violates their right to produce marine zones beyond the spatial sea and does not produce legal effects.
In closing, the Greek government is again ready for a dialogue with Tripoli for the demarcation of the maritime zones, with the intention of setting up a technical and negotiating team for this purpose.
