The response of the Greek diplomacy to the new ones was immediate and clear provocative statements by the representative of the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Athens, through diplomatic sources, is sending a clear message to Moscow, clarifying that Greece does not accept suggestions about its foreign policy and alliances.
“Threats are not acceptable”
In response to her warning Maria Zakharovawhich threatened that Russia will give the “appropriate response” in case the joint production of unmanned aircraft (drones) between Greece and Ukraine proceeds, circles of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs were categorical.
The message they send is that “threats directed against the sovereignty of independent states are automatically rejected”. In this way, the Greek side sets the limits, underlining that the country does not define itself and does not operate under a regime of intimidation.
Adherence to international legality
The same sources took care to recall the context in which Greek foreign policy moves over time. As they characteristically point out, Greece acts in its international relations with the sole aim of unwavering commitment to international law and respect for the statehood of all countries.
This principled stance is the answer to any form of revisionism or aggressive rhetoric that tries to impose conditions on the bilateral relations of third countries.
The right to international agreements
In addition, the diplomatic sources emphasized the self-evident right of each sovereign state to choose its partners and conclude the agreements it deems beneficial to its national interests.
Referring in particular to the cooperation between Athens and Kyiv, they clarified that such agreements, in addition to their defense or geopolitical dimension, also have a humanitarian sign. They noted that this particular cooperation guarantees energy sufficiency and security, factors that are fundamental conditions for human well-being, thus rejecting the Russian side’s attempt to criminalize the cooperation between the two countries.
What did Zakharova say?
«Athens was among the first to send arms and ammunition to Ukrainewhich Ukrainian soldiers use every day against civilians in Donbass, Zaporizhia and Kherson regions, Crimea, and other southern regions of our country. And this despite the fact that Greeks have lived in these areas since ancient times.”
“The so-called agreements with the Nazi regime of Kiev on November 17, including the development and use of unmanned naval vehicles, were further confirmation,” noted Zakharova.
“This action, like many other anti-Russian actions of the collective West aimed at the ‘defeat of Russia on the battlefield’, received the necessary assessment from us, and the appropriate response will follow“, concluded the representative of the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
