The fight
Panathinaikos entered the match in a mood to take possession of the ball and press, but Asteras was the one who had the first real chance in the 6th minute with Makeda who took the ball from a nice assist by Bartolo, but his execution went wide above Dragovski’s rafters.
In the 10th minute, from an excellent one-two between Tete and Vagiannidis, the right back of the “greens” crossed to the right and sent a very good cross towards Maksimovic, but the Serbian midfielder’s header found Tsintotas ready.
In the very next minute, from Kaltsa’s cross, Makeda got a header, but Dragovski had a very good position and blocked firmly, while in the 12th minute, from a very nice ball from Djuricic in the area, Ioannidis went for a four-a-four that was saved by Delhi, while he had the opportunity to “break” the ball to Tete.
The “greens” continued to have possession and in the 29th minute they had another good moment when from a corner by Djuricic, Maksimovic headed the back post, Deli fired one-on-one and Bakasetas shot from the edge of the area over from the rafters.
In the 35th minute, Bakaseta’s well-struck direct free-kick went narrowly over the posts, while in the 45th minute – after a period of time in the Asteras area – the ball ended up in Ingason who shot from close range with power, but Tsintotas did the impossible intervention, driving instinctively to a corner.
With the rain getting stronger before the start of the second half, making the efforts of the players of both teams even more difficult, Asteras “touched” the goal in the 49th minute when, from a shot by Crespi, Dragovski saved instinctively and Bartolo with projection he sent the ball over the posts all by himself.
In the 55th minute, Ioannidis missed another four-on-four after an amazing assist by Tete in the area, but Tsintotas again made an excellent save, while in the 57th minute, Mladenovic’s direct free-kick went just wide of Astera’s right post.
Asteras had another very good chance in the 58th minute with Kaltsa’s header that went wide (although he was in a very good position) after a nice run and cross by Alhos, while in the 67th minute Ioannidis’ layup and Tserin’s shot the ball bounced and ended up in Tsintota’s arms.
In the 69th minute from Bakaseta’s cross, Djuricic got a reverse header, but the ball hit the crossbar and went wide, while in the 77th minute, from a huge mistake by Arao, Makeda took the ball and found himself in a 4-a-4, but Dragovski defeated him.
In the 81st minute from Limni’s one-two with Mladenovic, the latter turned the ball over and Pelistri was just inches away from sending it into the net with projection, while in the 84th minute Cerin “chaffed” and didn’t shoot well at crosses from the left. Three minutes later Dragovski made a terrible intervention on a Delhi header.
In the 90’+2′ from Limni’s balls, Geremegev missed in an unrepeatable four-a-four, but seconds later, in the 4th minute of stoppage time, the Swedish striker got the… revenge, as with a buzzer-beater header, he defeated Tsintotas from Ingason’s conversion made it 1-0 and gave a hugely valuable and important victory to Panathinaikos.
