“No matter how many arrests are made, there is no relief for a father who lost his son”, says the father of 29-year-old Christos Kourouniotis, speaking to newsit.gr policeman who lost his life during the pursuit of White towerwhile the fourth Roma who participated in the bloody pursuit was arrested on December 18, 2023.
On the morning of Wednesday (11.12.2024), emergency police arrested a 37-year-old man in Aspropyrgos, who, according to the authorities, was riding in one of the vehicles pursued by EL.AS. that night.
The father of the deceased policeman, whose motorcycle crashed into a patrol car in front of him, which came to a sudden stop when the driver of the pursued vehicle made a dangerous maneuver, speaks to newsit.gr stating that whatever arrest is made will not ease the pain he feels from the loss of his policeman son. As stated by Mr. Kourouniotis, his pain is great and the only thing that gives him life now is his other son and his children.
“There is no more Earth for me to stand on. My pain is unbearable. There is no place to bear the pain I feel. I’m in a lot of pain. There is no relief from the misery of losing your child, no matter how many arrests are made. Nothing changes. They won’t bring my son back. I only live for my other child now, who is also a police officer, and my grandchildren, otherwise I would have cleaned them all out. I don’t have to calculate anything anymore, nor to be afraid. Otherwise I have no reason to live. None at all. My life is over. I suffered the worst I could suffer, losing my child. My wife is in the same situation,” were his words.
In the EL.AS coordinated operation in Aspropyrgos, the 37-year-old man was found hiding behind a barrier without doors and windows. As it was established, a warrant had been issued against the arrested person for theft and forming a gang while he was among those wanted for the death of the DIAS officer.
