“Any thought on national management of resources without a common agricultural policy must be stopped before it is even expressed,” the Vice President of the Left (Left) and SYRIZA – MEP MEP said from the plenary session of the European Parliament. Kostas Arvanitis.
In his intervention during the debate on the amendments to the new CAP and the plan of the multiannual fiscal framework 2028-2034 (MFS 2028-2034), Mr. Arvanitis called for no “further reduction in the budget for the CAP”, as well as “maintain the separate distinct line of the CAP budget”.
As he said, “if we evaluate the current CAP, we will find its failure because it is bureaucratic, bureaucratic, away from the immediate needs of small and medium -sized producers without connection to the productivity of reduced resources. And without a clear direction. Its structure generates opacity, mismanagement, lost resources. Okay, let’s not say now about scandals in Greece and elsewhere, but 3.5 billion of agricultural subsidies have ended up in a handful of billionaires. “
Mr Arvanitis called for “simplifying the rules, but they must be waterproof against corruption with a clear targeting of producers’ survival, securing local products, and of course protecting the environment.”
