Armani Milano – Olympiacos 88-87: Defeat after a “thriller” final in Italy for the Piraeus

THE Olympic “fought” until the end against Armani Milano for its 11th game Euroleaguebut eventually lost 88-87 and “fell” to 7-4 in the tournament standings.

Armani Milano found itself with a double-digit difference in the fourth period of the match, but the unstoppable Peters and Dorsey turned the match into a derby again and brought Olympiacos one… breath away from the big upset, which finally “stuck” on a missed shot by Vezenkov in the final of the Euroleague match.

The game

Olympiacos started the game against Armani Milano badly, as they allowed the Italians to “warm up” from the start, scoring on all their first attacks, until 14-10 midway through the first period. At the same time, however, his attack was finding solutions in all ways and with a short 6-0 run, he managed to take the lead in the match. However, his defense continued to give easy points to the hosts, who ended the period with a 27-21 advantage.

The picture was similar in the second quarter, where Armani Milano even reached a double-digit difference, exploiting the gaps in the Piraeus defense, even after Bartzokas’ changes. The entry of Peters, however, allowed Olympiakos to stay close to the score again, as the American forward had 10 personal points in that period, with terrific shots from long range, reducing it to 47-44 at halftime.

After the break, Olympiacos looked improved defensively, but stuck offensively and with Fournier scoring his team’s only basket in the first 6 minutes of the third period, Piraeus saw Armani Milano once again reach a double-digit lead. With a quick 8-0 within a minute, the Italians led 58-47 and took a significant lead in the match. Bartzoka’s team was even limited to 13 points in this quarter and the score at 30′ was 67-56.

The Italian team thus entered the final period with a significant lead, but Dorsey quickly “collected” it with a personal 5-0 and Olympiacos continued at the same pace, reducing the difference even to the basket.
