See the EOM announcement:
About the 11 -year -old patient, whose case is concerned with the media, social networking and the Panhellenic and who needs bone marrow transplantation from a compatible donor, we inform the following:
The small patient, who is, at the initiative of her family abroad, was hospitalized in Greece, where she was provided with the necessary medical support, and the necessary search for a volunteer bone marrow donor through the Greek Transplantation Organization (EOM).
Unfortunately, During the search, no compatible donor was identified worldwide. A similar search was also done in the center of the outside, but it also did not bear fruit.
With reference to the moving mobilization of Greek citizens to be checked for the possibility of compatibility, we inform that Volunteers’ check is done free of charge by the statutory donor centers (with cotton swab) and hospital tissue compatibility workshops (with blood sampling), provided that voluntary donation concerns all patients in need.
It goes without saying that, although and if a compatible donor is found, The procedures for transplanting the small patient will be initially and prioritized, even if it stays abroad.
Recall that the voluntary bone marrow offer is an act that saves lives and it is good for all citizens, aged 18-45, to become volunteer donors for our patients.
It is noted that the misunderstanding created about payment of payment to become a donor does not concern volunteer donors, but the guided donation between relatives, which is compensated by the insurance funds.
