Amazon and Microsoft “fell” – Serious problems are facing millions of users

A massive outage hit the internet again on Wednesday night (29.10.2025), after two of the world’s biggest cloud service providers went down simultaneously, the Amazon Web Services (AWS) and its Microsoft Azure.

According to the tracking site Downdetectorthe first problems began to be reported around 17:30 Greek time, with thousands of users reporting that they could not access websites, applications or services based on Amazon Web Services and Microsoft Azure infrastructures, as reported by the Daily Mail.

The outage affects dozens of major platforms that depend on the two companies’ services: Microsoft 365, Xbox, Outlook, Starbucks, Costco, Kroger, but also business tools like Blackbaud and Minecraft.

Downdetector charts show spikes in concurrent problem reports for both AWS and Azure, confirming the global extent of the malfunction.

The weak point of the world wide web

The outage worries experts because AWS and Azure host a huge part of the world’s Internet infrastructure — from e-commerce and streaming services, to data storage and business tools.

“First AWS went down, now Azure too. I love it when two companies own half the internet infrastructure!” quipped one user on X (formerly Twitter), while thousands of others expressed their outrage at the vulnerability of the global internet.

It’s the second major AWS outage in less than ten days, a new warning sign of the fragility of an Internet now in the hands of a few cloud tech giants.
