Algeria: Tragedy with three dead and dozens injured after falling railings in football match

Unfolded tragedy occurred on Saturday night (21/6/25) at Algeriawhen during the festivities by Muludus’ fans to win the country’s championship, the stadium’s protective railing collapsed, resulting in the dead and injured.

According to the Algerian Ministry of Civil Protection and, according to local media, three people have lost their lives, while another 70 have been injured. The incident took place at Stade du 5 Juillet, which was crowded for Muludunda’s decisive fight against Magra.

During the festivities, a protective railing of the platform collapsed, resulting in dozens of fans falling from height to the lower level of the stadium. The Sports Website “La Gazette du Fennec” reports that the collapse occurred shortly after the end of the match, while Muludia’s fans were celebrating the championship by their team.

The organizing authority of the championship proceeded with the immediate cancellation of the trophy award ceremony, while a wave of emotion swept the country. Algeria’s president, Abdelmatzind Tempune, expressed his condolences through a post on the X platform (formerly Twitter), declaring deep sadness over the tragic incident.

Authorities have begun research on the circumstances of the accident, while questions are raised about the safety of infrastructure and complying with the necessary protection measures in major sporting events.
