Alexis Tsipras resigned from a member – “I am not giving up on political action, maybe we will be traveling together again in more beautiful seas”

His resignation by a Member of Parliament was submitted by Alexis Tsipras.

In his resignation letter he states:

“After 16 years in Parliament, as a MP, party leader, leader of the opposition and prime minister, I made a decision of consciousness:

To give up on parliamentary office.

Shortly before the start of the new Parliamentary Council, I deposited my resignation to the House Speaker.

It was not an easy decision, nor unhappy.

I give up because I can’t and I don’t want to maintain the post of Member, with all the privileges this entails, when I feel that my participation, in the special treaty of the former prime minister, offers nothing substantial to those who trusted me.

Because I cannot and do not want to, formally participate in a House, which is democratically stripped, with the responsibility of the majority, failing to perform the role that the Constitution dictates and citizens require.

But I resign from a SYRIZA MP, I am not giving up on political action.

I leave the safety of the mountain beats.

And I aspire to return to the hopeful insecurity of social action.

Not to guide from above, but to better listen to its society and its needs.

Released from office, commitments and mechanisms that can no longer express it.

At a time when our country is in a dangerous deadlock.

Economic, political, geostrategic, but primarily moral.

Hope is asked.

Through actions and not just words.

The actions that prove that we are not all the same.

The actions, which we can only exceed today’s impasses.

I do not believe in Messiahs, nor in party construction.

But I believe in the power of the popular movement that fights collectively for social justice.

I believe in the will and actions of many.

With them, their needs and hopes, I am determined to meet.

I want to address my comrades, to all those we went together so far and shared struggles, anxieties, hopes and dreams.

We will not be opponents.

And maybe soon travel together in more beautiful seas.

But most of all, I want to address the great social majority that suffocates:

The looting of our homeland by a generalized corruption regime that generates inequalities and injustice can continue anymore.

If those who have the responsibility of the Democratic Opposition cannot ascend their self -interest in order to make the change, then we must all become the change we expect.

To get the future in our hands.

This is worth every effort and every race. “
