The iconic actor of the 1950s and 1960s, June Lockhart, known for her roles in rows “Lost In Space”, “Lassie” and in the movie “Meet Me in St. Louis,” died of natural causes on October 23, 2025 in Santa Monica, California at age 100.
June Lockhart became a well-known actress from her portrayal of Timmy’s stepmother, Ruth Martin, on the CBS series “Lassie” from 1958 to 1964.
She then starred in the CBS series ‘Lost in Space’ from 1965 to 1968 where she played a brilliant biochemist and loving mother of three who becomes stranded in space with her family.
“When I wasn’t filming Lassie, I was being the Scrabble lady with my hairdresser and crew,” she told Closer magazine in 2024, as reported by Variety. He also mentioned that “Lost in Space” was her favorite play.
In almost 8 decades presence on the small and big screen, Lockhart has appeared in quite a few rows and filmscontinuing its activity even after its 80 years.
She had recurring roles on ‘Petticoat Junction’, ‘General Hospital’, ‘Beverly Hills 90210’ as well as guest appearances on series such as ‘The Beverly Hillbillies’, ‘Happy Days’, ‘Full House’, ‘Roseanne’ and ‘Grey’s Anatomy’.
She was the daughter of actor Gene Lockhart and actress Kathleen Lockhart and was born in New York in 1925. She made her film debut at the age of 13, starring alongside her parents in the Edwin L. Marin film, «A Christmas Carol» (1939), where she played Belinda Cratchit.
After this role that highlighted her in the field of cinema, she appeared in films such as “All This, and Heaven Too”, “Meet Me in St. Louis’, ‘The Yearling’ and ‘Sergeant York’.
In the 1950s, Lockhart also guest starred in several Western series, including “Wagon Train,” “Cimarron City,” “Gunsmoke,” “Have Gun – Will Travel,” and “Rawhide.”
It was also nominated for two Emmy Awardsamong them and for Best Actress in a Leading Role in a Drama Series for her performance in “Lassie».
Her biggest success was when she was awarded two stars in the Hollywood Walk of Fameone for film and one for television, and she had also received a Special Tony Award for Outstanding Performance by a Newcomer for her role in Broadway in the show “For Love or Money” in 1948.
