High increase is observed in entry values in archaeological sites, monuments and museums of the country, most notably the Acropolis, where the ticket of 20 euros amounted to 30. The new charges are valid from April 1, 2025 and apply to over 350 areas of cultural interest, in an effort to “rationalize” the system and alignment with international standards, such as the Ministry.
Five categories of tickets based on traffic
The new pricing policy is based on the traffic of every space, removing the old, complex system of nine levels and multiple types of tickets. Categories are shaped as follows:
- Over 200,000 visitors per year: 20 euros
- 75,000 – 200,000 visitors: 15 euros
- 15,000 – 75,000 visitors: 10 euros
- Under 15,000 visitors: 5 euros
- Special Category: Acropolis – 30 euros
New Measures: More Free Days, Personalized Experiences and Digital Cards
Political change is not just about prices. From this year:
- Free admission is increasing by one day: Every Tuesday Sunday of the month from 1/11 to 31/3.
- Single tickets for visits to more than one place are abolished, with a few exceptions (Delphi, Mycenae, Olympia).
- Free admission for children outside the EU extends to 18 years (from 5 in force).
- The free admission remains for EU citizens. up to 25 years of age and disabled.
- The differentiation between the summer and the winter season – a single price throughout the year is abolished.
- The Cultural card For special categories of citizens, with the possibility of issuing Gov.gr or KEP.
The personalized visit to the Acropolis… for a few
A new premium package was inaugurated in Acropolis: A personalized tour of groups of up to five people, out of opening hours, at a cost that has not yet been officially made public but is considered “high”. Visits take place 07: 00–09: 00 and 20: 00–22: 00, accompanied by tour and souvenirs. The model is expected to extend to other areas.

And the Greeks? The cost for the locals
Although culture is the property of all, the issue remains: Can a Greek family pay over 100 euros for a visit to a place like the Acropolis? The high costs for locals has already sparked reactions, with many demanding special pricing for Greek citizens, as is the case in other countries (eg Egypt, Turkey, Jordan).
Access to culture should not be a privilege but a right. It may be time to examine policies that enhance the presence of Greek citizens in their own cultural treasures, without economic obstacles.
The cultural value and the economic balance
The Acropolis, Knossos, Olympia are not just tourist destinations. They are pieces of world heritage. However, the equation between economic viability and universal accessibility is difficult. The bet for Greece is whether it will be able to turn this pricing restructuring into a qualitative upgrade of the services – without losing its connection to its own citizens.
