AADE: Significant successes against smuggling in the second quarter of 2025

OR AADE It continues with undiminished efficiency to ensure compliance with tax and customs provisions, identifying and actively fighting the phenomena smuggling and illegal activities.

Through modern technological media (X-ray machines), close collaboration with specialized staff and specialized controls by special trained detectors, AADE has managed to achieve significant results against smuggling in the second trimester of 2025, proving that the effective combat is protected by both tax and customs.

During this time, AADE has made dozens of seizures of cash, tobacco and alcoholic products, drugs, imitation species and energy products. Indicatively seized in total:
• 252,625 €, $ 86,366, $ 1,740 Leva Bulgaria, 108,000 pounds of Turkey, 2,000,000 Japan Japan, 106,000 Dimitrios of the United Arab Emirates
• 1,868,600 pieces of cigarettes, 772 kg tobacco, 50 cigars and 321 steam devices
• 35 bottles, two pies and two stainless steel packages of alcoholic beverages,
• 16,342 kg of hemp and various drug products
• 38,679 Pieces of imitation/counterfeit products

In detail:
A. undeclared fluids available
At Macedonia Airport, they were identified:
• 10,400 € to a passenger on his arrival from Istanbul
At the “Eleftherios Venizelos” Airport, with the help of “Hant” and “Camora” detectors, they were identified:
• 10,900 € to a passenger to Belgrade,
• € 12,000 to a passenger on his arrival from New York,
• € 11,200 to a passenger on his arrival from Cairo,
• 25,900 € to passengers upon arrival from Istanbul,
• $ 3,050 & $ 10,000 to a passenger on his arrival from New York,
• € 14,000 to a passenger upon arrival of Tel Aviv,
• $ 64,000 to a passenger on his arrival from Beijing.
A total of 38,000 € were found at the Cakavia Customs.
A total of € 75,225, $ 12,366, $ 1,740, Bulgaria, Turkey.
A total of € 13,900, 2,000,000 Japan, and 106,000 Dimitrios of the United Arab Emirates were found at the Castaneon Customs.
A total of 27,550 € were found at the Doiran Customs.
A total of 10,500 € were found at Crystallopigi Customs.

B. smuggled tobacco products
At the Athens Airport “Eleftherios Venizelos” with the assistance of the Bane Dog “Bane”, they were seized:
• 320,700 pieces of cigarettes, 16.5 kg of fine smoke for handmade cigarettes and 65.50 kg of hookah tobacco that brought a total of 13 passengers from Cairo, Constantinople. The passengers were arrested.
• 112,400 pieces of cigarettes brought to their luggage for a total of 3 passengers departing from Athens to Milan, Eindhoven and London, who were arrested.
• 819,600 pieces of cigarettes and 639.46 kg of hookah tobacco, found in abandoned luggage without passenger & flight details

• In parcels/cargo:
– 400,000 pieces of Thailand cigarettes that had been declared as toothpaste with a recipient company based in Athens.
– 47,600 pieces of cigarettes and 20 kg of fine smoke for handmade cigarettes for the UK and Belgium.
– 50 cigars in two parcels derived from Dominican Republic.
– 321 steam devices with 2% nicotine content originated in Canada.
At Macedonia Airport, a passenger was found from Constantinople to Thessaloniki to hold 4,600 pieces of cigarettes.
9,440 pieces of cigarettes and 850 grams of tobacco were found and seized at the Patras Customs and seized in popular markets in the Municipality of Patras.
1,600 pieces of cigarettes were found and confiscated at the Castanes Customs.
At Mykonos Customs, 72,000 pieces of cigarettes were found and seized.
At Kakavia Customs, 1,600 pieces of cigarettes were found and confiscated.

C. Illegal alcoholic products and distillation equipment
At the Garden Customs, a total of 33 bottles of alcoholic beverages were found and seized.

• In Nea Peramos, 2 bags of 10 lt each with two -dimensional distillers due to lack of legal market documents, and 2 stainless steel packaging a total of 13 lt with distillation.
• In Keramoti 2 bottles of 2.4 lt alcoholic beverages, which brought indications and an stamped Bulgarian authorities’ tax from a catering shop. It was followed by sealing the store.

D. Freed species
At Athens Airport “Eleftherios Venizelos”, the auditors committed a total of 1,172 pieces of counterfeit species (clothing, bags) which were found either in passenger luggage or in commercial missions from Turkey and 146 pieces.
At the Garden Customs, from checks carried out, they were found in a truck and pledged 37,330 pieces of clothing as falsified.
At Kavala Customs, they were found and committed:
• In a Kavala popular market 16 pairs of sunglasses of various signals
• In a popular market in Krinides 15 pieces of t-shirts of various companies.

E. Smuggling
At Athens Airport “Eleftherios Venizelos” they were identified:
• A weapon closure on a parcel to the US by mail.
• A weapon closure in a parcel to France by mail.
• Local paintings in Peruction parcel via courier company.
• 70 kg of insecticides in Paris passenger luggage.
At the Orestiada Customs Office, auditors identified 4 lt forbidden pesticides of Turkish origin, without a traffic license and a license to be introduced by the Ministry of Rural Development and Food.
At the Customs Office of Castaneon, 18 bottles of 1 lt were identified and pledged.
At the Garden Customs Office of passengers’ checks upon entering the country, they were found and committed:
• 6th packages of baklava, weighing 1,250 gr each
• Gold weight 767.59 gr with 127.27 ct diamonds and a silver jewelry 17.30 gr
• 138 pieces of clothes
• 16 boxes of medicinal products
At the Customs Office of Kastoria there was an attempt to export. Specifically, 15 garments from wild feline furrows were found under the trade name Bobcat and the scientific name LYNX RUFUS (North America Legs), fur animals belonging to the contract for the protection of the threatened and endangered species. Types and samples of them are accompanied by a special license.
At Mytilene Customs, after a control carried out in a vehicle from Turkey, they found 5 small tiles of gold floating from 2.5 grams to 20 grams each.

F. Fuel
The Customs Auditors of the Customs Audit Service (ELIT) Attica, pretending to be municipal officials, entered a truck parking lot in Magoula Attica and identified the existence of an illegal one -tonne tank with a quantity of 300 lt.

G. Drugs
At Athens Airport “Eleftherios Venizelos” in passenger luggage and goods were found and confiscated with the help of “Diego”, “Hant”, “Camora” and “Bane” detectors:
• 4,578 grams of cannabis in parcel from Canada by mail, followed by a person’s arrest
• 9,622.90 gr cannabis in parcels from Thailand by mail, followed by arrests of six people
• 56.4 gr cannabis in parcel of Britain by mail, followed by a person’s arrest
• 2,085.10 gr cannabis and other species (jellies, ampoules) containing cannabis in parcels by mail, followed by arrests of three people
Finally, the Athens Airport Customs “Eleftherios Venizelos” destroyed a fire in a blast in Distomo Boeotia that had been confiscated during the preceding period. In detail: 248,519 gr Khat, 89,529 gr cannabis, 5.449 gr methamphetamine and 30,650 pieces of drug tablets.

At the Customs Office of Mytilene, after a control carried out in a vehicle from Turkey, a quantity of 0.19 grams of cannabis extracts was found.
At the Customs Office of Xanthi, in a wholesale warehouse, cannabis products were pledged in which, after laboratory tests, psychotropic substances such as hexhydrocannabinol, tetrahydrocannabinol acetate, tetrahydrocannaviforol, were found. Many of them found tetrahydrocannabinol at rates greater than those provided by law. Were seized in total:
• 355 packages of cannabis product totaling 568 gr and 14 ml as follows:
• 262 cannabis flower packages of 489 gr,
• 79 cannabis cigarettes totaling 79 gr and
• 14 electronic cigarettes totaling 14 ml.
In addition, according to the response of the Hellenic Medicines Organization, the supplier of cannabis products, with the main tax activity of wholesale trade in health supplements, was not found in the EOF nutritional register. Therefore, the movement of these products was illegal.

H. Other customs offenses
At the Garden Customs Office, from controls to vehicles found:
• Disassemble hunting cartridge without the projected transport permit.
• 9mm pistol with 11 9mm cartridges in its magazine and custom lens to the bottom of the barrel without the projected transport license. In addition, 20 shotgun cartridges were found hidden in the rear seat.
• 1 pistol & 31 cartridges.
