THE application which can “scan” the cat It’s a fact. so cat owners who like to take pictures of their pet with their cell phone now have a new excuse to do so.
An animal health technology company in Calgary, Alberta, Sylvester.ai, has developed an app, Tably, that uses a cell phone camera to tell if a cat is in pain. The application can help young veterinarians, says Dr. Liz Relay at the Wild Rose Cat Clinic in Calgary, where the manufacturers tested the algorithm.
How does it work
The application looks at the position of the cat’s ears and head, if it closes its eyes, if it has tension in its nose and if it shakes its mustache to diagnose if the animal is in pain.
A 2019 study, published in the scientific journal Scientific Reports, found that the so-called “feline gait scale” (or FGS) is a valid and reliable tool for assessing severe pain in cats.
