I’m on hunger strike until the last rancher who killed his animals is given at least 1,000 euros per month for his family to live on, until we get our animals back. We will all fight for the rest breeders together. I’m on hunger strike because there are livestock farmers who currently don’t have to feed their children, send them to university, pay rent, electricity, water.”
Elsewhere in his statement, the breeder explained how he came to the decision: “I did not intend to do such a thing, but it all started because the minister’s associates did not accept our five-member committee to be admitted to the office to give a memorandum with the requests, but they insisted that we go up to the office three people. We refused because we didn’t want three people to be targeted and we asked them to come down to see us, they refused and that’s how it all started.”
Despite the fact that colleagues of the minister met him outside the office and told him how it would be arranged meeting with the deputy minister himselfChristos Schizas refused and insists on the hunger strike, remaining at the scene.
