Urgent question to the Commission and its High Representative European Union on foreign policy and defense issues Kaya Callasfiled by the Vice President of the Socialist and Democrats Group and head of the PASOK Eurogroup Giannis Maniatiswhere it denounces the publication by the Common Research Center of the Commission (JRC) and the European Defense Organization, a report referring to its occupied territories Cyprus as the “Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus” and recognizes on a map the results of the illegal and invalid Turkish-Libyan Pact for EEZ.
The Joint Research Center (JRC) is the European Commission’s research organization and is its consultant on technology and research, while the European Defense Agency is supervised by the Council and its administration consists of a representative of each Member State, including Greece and Greece. European Union on foreign policy and defense matters.
As these reports contradict, with international law, the conclusions of the European Council and violate the sovereign rights of Greece and Cyprus, it calls on the European Commission and the High Representative chaired by the European Defense Organization, to explain how to publish a report.
In addition, it asks those responsible to correct the report immediately and to ensure that the error is not repeated.
The whole question:
In a report by the Joint Research Center (JRC) and the European Defense Agency on the protection of critical energy infrastructure and published on September 12, 2025, on page 121, there is a reference to the energy sources discovered in the exclusive economic zone of the Republic of Cyprus. At this point, the territory of Turkey occupied by Turkey is referred to as the “Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus” without the term being even in quotation marks, or it is obvious that it refers to the pseudo -state, which Turkey has created in the occupied territories.
In addition, there is a reference to the map No. 37 to both the claimed EEZ of the pseudo-state and the complete acceptance of the consequences of the illegal and invalid in accordance with international law and the conclusions of the European Turkish-Libyan Council for EEZ.
Given that this report presents the situation in the Eastern Mediterranean in an inaccurate way and contrary to international law, the European Council’s conclusions and the sovereign rights of Member States in the region, the European Commission is asked:
How did it allow such an exhibition to be published on such an important issue, without first checking its content of the facts?
What will she do for her immediate correction?
How will it ensure that it is not repeated in the future?
