The Italian minister participated in the meeting on the potential countermeasures on Donald Trump’s duties held by the EU Trade Ministers today (07.04.2025), stressing that all options are on the table.

Following the EU’s response to US duties for steel and aluminum, which is under preparation, the ministers also examined the possibility of further proportional countermeasures if needed.

“The EU expresses its deep regret for new US duties and remains committed to dialogue, seeking a solution with a negotiation acceptable on both sides. The current Council shows that the Member States are united and determined to defend the interests of both citizens and businesses. We support the European Commission and our reaction will be governed by patience and determination. All the options remain on the table, “said Michal Baranovsky, Deputy Minister of the Ministry of Economic Development and Technology in Poland, responsible for trade.

As for the future, the Commission and the Member States will carefully evaluate any new US measures, as well as the latest duties announced (20% for the EU). The aim is to ensure that the EU approach remains both balanced and effective, protecting our financial interests while keeping the door open for mutual benefit solutions.
