What is the new monthly VAT declaration system

The new monthly VAT declaration system concerns business that have simplistic books and which are in the quarterly submission system tax returnsas Tax Technical Athanasia Stolakis told Ertnews.

For those companies that have begun their activity from April 1, 2025, they will have to submit a tax return each month.

Those businesses that have begun their activity last year, that is, from January 1, 2024 to 31 March 2025, will also submit a VAT statement each month, but this will be mandatory from July 1st.

Old businesses that have begun until December 31, 2023, can be subject to the new system optionally, but this can be done from October 1, 2025 onwards.

In the case of businesses that are compulsorily entering the new system, they should stay on it for 24 months and after them are given the option, and whoever chooses whatever he chooses, either monthly or quarterly, should stay 12 months in it.

Ms. Stolakis pointed out that those businesses who maintain duplicate books, anyway submit VAT statements per month, do not change anything for them.

Referring to the IRIS payment system, the taxpayer said it is very popular especially at younger ages 18 to 35 years.

Now IRIS is expanding and now all businesses should accept IRIS payments. As of November 1, legal entities should also receive compulsory IRIS payments.

Also, all professionals should have ensured that IRIS payments end up in business accounts rather than the natural person’s accounts. The account should be declared as professional in AADE.

Because IRIS is very widespread, the summer is expected to rise the daily limit of transactions currently 500 euros, to 1,000 euros, 500 to individuals and 500 to traders.

Referring to the submission of tax returns, Mrs Stolakis stressed that they had exceeded 790,000, and that no particular problems have occurred in the process.
