Dendias: Five meters of transparency for armed forces equipment

“Be able to watch the equipment programs and miss the shadow that existed in the past.”

A series of transparency measures “to be able to track equipment programs and miss the shadow that existed in the past,” the Minister of National Defense proposes Nikos Dendias.

In a posting on X, Mr Dendias cites part of yesterday’s speech in Parliament during the debate on the body of informing the House by Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis on the planning of defense equipment and the country’s defense policy.

More specifically, the measures proposed by Mr. Dendias include:

Deposit and discussion for the first time in the House of Long Term Defense Equipment Planning

Shielding of the Directorate -General for Defense Equipment and Investment (GDEEE):

  • Selection of the Director and Deputy Director by active officers following a Proposal of AGEMATHA
  • Establishment of a Special Bureau of Legal Adviser of the State (NSS)

Changing the way of installation

Strengthening Internal Affairs Service (SHO):

  • Modification of PD Subsidation and Operation of the Internal Affairs Service
  • Memorandum of Understanding with AADE so that HSS will obtain control opportunities in equipment issues
  • Military Public Prosecutor in
  • Legislation for the possibility of removing bank secrecy
  • Ability to access the asset control of the natural persons of the Armed Forces

Activation of the Special Standing Committee of Equipment Programs and Contracts (Article 31B of Parliament) to participate in the equipment programs procedures:

  • Reporting the Commission per semester and all of the programs to be activated

Update Extraordinary whenever requested by opposition or fellowship:

  • Reporting Commission information on all programs already activated
  • Opinion on the activation and award of programs worth EUR 10 million instead of EUR 30 million to date.
