India: 21 dead after explosion in fireworks factory

At least 21 people were killed and five others were injured because of the strong burst noted in a fireworks manufacturing factory in the Northwest Gujarat State India.

The explosion was so strong that debris and human members were tossed into a large radius around the factory in Dissa, India.

“The fierce explosion at the factory caused the collapse of the roof,” the state’s government spokesman, Ricissis Patel, told reporters, pointing out that the craft was operating without a license.

“Human members were scattered on a farm 200-300 meters away from the factory,” a local official told a farm.

Local firefighters of the Municipality of DEAS rushed to the spot, along with 108 ambulances to carry out the rescue operation.

The fire is believed to have been caused by a boiler explosion, with the intensity of the explosion and the subsequent fire causing serious damage to the structure of the building.

Authorities have confirmed that the fire was under control, while rescue teams continue to seek any survivors under the debris.

Fireworks are extremely popular in India and are widely used in festivals, events of all kinds and weddings.

Many fireworks crafts work illegally, ignoring basic security regulations, resulting in often deadly explosions.

In February 2024, an explosion at a fireworks plant in Madia Pradesh (centrally) claimed the lives of 11 people. Seven months later, five other people were killed in a similar accident in the Northern Pradesh state in Northern India.
