Trump told reporters on Sunday (30.3.25) that he was planning to start mutual duties with “all countries”, facing speculation that he could limit the initial scope of his announcement on April 2.
The spokesman highlighted examples of tariff rates from the European Union, Japan, India and Canada, speaking to reporters, marking that these entities are likely to be among the objectives of the president’s new burdens.
“This makes it practically impossible to import US products into these markets and has set many Americans out of business and out of work in recent decades,” Leavitt said.
Trump has identified on April 2, 2025 until the start of sweeping duties that are the focus of his plan to review world trade, enhance American production and the inflow of revenue from duties to state -owned funding, including domestic funding.
The president has preceded the announcement of the duties on Wednesday, April 2, 2025 with contributions to Canada, Mexico and China – the three largest US partners – as well as cars, steel and aluminum. Import taxes in copper could come within several weeks. Trump has also threatened with duties on imports of drugs, semiconductors and timber.
The uncertainty about his plans, which are often changed and subject to last -minute cuts, have caused fears that they could shake supply chains and raise prices for American consumers. This concern fueled a sell -off last week on Wall Street that expanded on Monday.
“Wall Street will do it fine with this government, just as it did in the first term,” Leavitt said.
