The Greek MEP who is active in Division of wine production in his hometown of Kefaloniacalls for specific measures against the possibility of imposing US duties that can hit the industry in Greece and the entire EU.
As he states, amid the escalating trade dispute between the US and the EUthere is a significant risk of imposing new 200% of European wines and other alcoholic beverages from the US.
Given that the EU vineyard accounts for 60% of world wine production and 60% of the worldwide value of exporting wine and that the US is the largest export destination for European wines and alcoholic beverages, this potential has caused great ranks to the US. However, the recent proposal by the Commission to support the vineyard does not include measures specifically to address the consequences of imposing US duties.
In view of the negotiations of Commissioner Maroš Šefčovič with the US, Nikolas Farantoutis is calling for information from the Commission on the US negotiations and calls for measures to prevent and address the negative consequences of the possible imposition of tariffs on producers.
