THE highway Patras – Tower It is one of the most iconic infrastructure projects in Western Greece, with the aim of upgrading road safety and reducing the travel time between the two cities and the time of travel between Athens and Pyrgos in about 2 hours and 45 minutes.
The ongoing project of 74.8 kilometers is being implemented by Olympia Road SA, in collaboration with AKTOR, AVAX and GEK TERNA. According to recent statements by the Deputy Minister of Infrastructure and Transport, Nikos Tahaiou, the progress of the work has exceeded 73%, with the completion of the highway being planned in part in 2025. the first sectionfrom Kato Achaia to Pyrgos, 65 kilometers long, is expected to be delivered to traffic July 2025.
The second sectionfrom Midilogli to Lower Achaia, 10km long, is projected to complete to the late November 2025so the entire motorway will be fully operational.
The political leadership of the Ministry of Infrastructure and Transport is planning a visit to the three construction sites on Monday, March 31, 2025, to oversee the progress of work.
The new Minister Christos Dimas has set the project on the first priorities of the new political leadership, so that the government can be verified in the times in which the new highway will be delivered to be delivered.
As Mr Tahaios has stated in the past, the completion of the motorway is expected to significantly boost the economic, social and cultural development of the area, improving access and facilitating the movements of residents and visitors.
At the same time, the deputy minister has pointed out that the completion of the road axis brings to light the pending issue of the construction of the Pyrgos – Alfios – Kalo – Tsakona junction, which will enhance the connection of the West with the eastern Peloponnese, further contributing to the development of local communities.
Reportedly, Olympia Road has been requested to make its proposal for the construction of this section, but its form depends on the one hand on the management of the environmentally protected area of Lake Kaiafa and on the other hand on the negotiations to be done with the European Commission.
In any case, as Mr Tahaios has stated in Parliament, the cost of this project starts at € 700 million and depending on the solution it will qualify, it may exceed one billion euros. These budgets have emerged from studies of three alternatives submitted by the Concession Company to the Ministry of Infrastructure and Transport.
With the completion of the Patras – Pyrgos highway, Olympia Odos will turn into one of the largest in Greece. It will extend by 75 kilometers, reaching a total of 285 kilometers, and will be widening the existing highway in the first 13 kilometers and new engraving in the remaining 61.5 kilometers. It is a high -end road, with 2 lanes and an emergency lane, a design speed of 120km/h, 8 uneven nodes and semi -bodies that smooth out traffic flow and improve road safety.
