OR Premier League announced on Friday (21/11/2025) that the 2026/27 season will start on 22 August and end on 30 May 2027, one week before the Champions League final.

The Premier League season will include 33 weekends and 5 midweek matches. Kick-off is being pushed back a week later than usual to allow recovery time after the expanded World Cup, which ends on July 19. This adjustment also provides an 89-day gap between the end of the 2025/26 season and the start of the new one.

“With an ever-busier global football calendar, the welfare and health of footballers remains a priority for the Premier League,” the league said in a statement.

“During the Christmas and New Year period, no two matches will be played within 60 hours. This is in line with the commitments given to clubs to deal with the busy festive schedule within the expanded international calendar,” the League added.

The regular Boxing Day fixture schedule will return next season. This year, however, there will be just one match on Boxing Day due to scheduling issues.
