The moment city bus started spewing smoke – Passengers got out in panic

Panic prevailed on the morning of Thursday, November 20 at bus of natural gas, which it began to release fumes while moving on Kapodistrio Avenue.

Passengers on their way to work were thrown out of the bus in terror as it began to emit smoke and the vehicle was towed away by crane.

In a video presented by the Star, the moment when the bus 421 Agioi Anargyroi – Agia Paraskevi started to emit thick smoke while moving on Kapodistrio Avenue.

He stopped, the doors opened and the passengers started to get out in a panic. The city was full, since it was 9.30 in the morning and most people were going to work.

Smoke started coming from the back of the bus where the engine is located. According to information there was a problem with a spare part.

Of course, when the passengers saw the smoke, they got scared and called the driver, causing them all to get down.

A little later the fire truck arrived. The bus stayed at the scene for 2 hours until it was pulled by a crane. Inconvenience for both passengers and passing drivers, as a traffic jam was caused.

OSY sources say: “Citizens called the Fire Department, but it turned out that there was no danger of fire.”

“The bus was ten years old, natural gas. The damage happened to the engine; the natural gas tank is on the roof of the vehicle, so there was no problem to cause a fire”, emphasized Fotis Nikolakopoulos – General Secretary of the OASA Workers’ Union.

In just 20 days, more than five incidents of damage to trolleys, metros and buses have been recorded, which have caused inconvenience and concern to the public.

In fact, at the beginning of November, two of the new natural gas buses of the 608 Galatsi-Zografou line had a battery failure, as a result of which the strong smell brought people down.
