New tragedy in Turkey: Firefighting plane flying over Croatia crashed – pilot dead

The Turkish pilot of the firefighting plane died when the AT802 plane crashed near the Croatian coastal town of Seni during a maintenance flight, according to the Croatian Firefighters’ Association.

“Two AT802 firefighting aircraft belonging to our Directorate General of Forestry departed the Dardanelles on Wednesday 12 November at 10:24am. for scheduled maintenance in Zagreb, Croatia. Due to weather conditions, the two aircraft spent the night at Rečica Airport in Croatia.

After taking off for Zagreb Airport today (Thursday 13 November 2025) at 5:38 pm. Turkey time, they returned to Retzika Airport due to adverse weather conditions.

On the return leg, one of our aircraft landed at Retzika Airport, but wireless contact with the other aircraft was lost at 6:25 p.m. Turkey time.

Search and rescue efforts have been launched in coordination with Croatian units to locate our pilot in command and the aircraft.

We will continue to update the public as soon as details regarding the matter are clarified.”

The new incident happened a few days ago after the C-130 crash that killed 20 in Georgia.

The Turkish C-130 had taken off from Azerbaijan bound for Turkey, but for an unspecified – so far – reason it crashed in an area near the border with Georgia.
